4 of 5 loaded with energy, kick ass from the very first, October 21 2005
Reviewer: Chris Janssen
Here we are again! Bacon Fat, rockin’ and kickin’ ass. The band exists for some years now and they keep up the progression in every way. A very functional and original website, gigs all over the Benelux and some new songs. The disc is loaded with energy. “Rub Top Shuffle” has this smooth drive with some tight riffs by the guitarplayer. On and off the riffs are combined with the bass-guitar licks while the drums keep on pumping like hell. Nothing wrong with that. Though it’s remarkable to me that the second guitarsolo is much more chaotic than the first one which is really dosed better. Clearly my favorite song is “Strip Down”. This song has an excellent variation in rhythm and a chorus which’ll hunt your mind for a long time after listening to it. “Red Pussycat” is a fast song and takes you by the throat from the first beat. It rocks like nothing else and it’s really impossible not to move on this one. Another straight in your face song is “Motorcycle Hotel”. An up-tempo rocker with a good vocal melody and a clear song-structure. Overall I have some trouble with the voice. Further on I think the songs are too long. If you want to keep the attention of the listener I think you should bring the lenght of the vocal-lines and the guitar-solo’s a little closer to each other. The guitar-violence is too much for me. But maybe one thing and another fits the rough image of the Bacon Fat concept. Some 6 songs I’ve met before, in any form or performance, on several demo’s. In my opinion those three gentlemen are perfectly capable of releasing a full-cd with twelve new original compositions. Then we’ll have to wait a little longer. To me this band is not a bluesband. I’m sure that on heavy rock-festivals Bacon Fat will kick ass from the very first second on!
